Vande Bharat Mission is the massive repatriation operation planned by the Indian government to bring back stranded Indians in different parts of the world in the wake of COVID-19.
As part of the mission, Air India’s evacuation flight carried Indian nationals that were stranded in the Philippines as a result of the coronavirus lockdown that finally arrived in Mumbai. The External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar announced on Monday that this is the first Air India flight between India and the Philippines which was made to operate under the government’s Vande Bharat Mission.
The government started operation Vande Bharat Mission to bring back around 14,800 stranded Indians from 12 countries on 64 AI flights. India began the bringing back of its citizens stranded abroad from May 7. The second phase of the Vande Bharat Mission is said to begin in the third week of May which will mainly aim to cover European nations.
