Union Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad has accused the Congress party of trying to save fugitive Indian businessman Nirav Modi and his uncle Mehul Choksi. Prasad also allegedly accused retired Mumbai High Court judge, Abhay Thipsay, of trying to influence the judicial process in order to save Modi who was in the United Kingdom.
“Congress has always tried to save Nirav Modi or Mehul Choksi. Now that he (Nirav) has been arrested and extradition proceedings against him are underway, a Congress member who is a retired judge himself is defending him in the court,” Union Minister Prasad was quoted by ANI.
Tipsay, on the other hand, told the London court that charges leveled against Nirav, which include conspiracy and cheating, dishonestly delivering property, etc., would not hold up under Indian law. A number of complaints were issued linked to him with regard to credit checks and lack of records to name a few.
