At the meagre age of 23, this gorgeous lass already has 10 films in total in her bucket! Ashika Ranganath, prominently known for her roles in Raambo 2 and Mugulu Nage, rose to fame after her debut film ‘Crazy Boy’ in the year 2016. She is one of the only actresses in the industry, who had no connections to Sandalwood whatsoever until she participated in a beauty pageant and was recognised by director Mahesh Babu. In three years since then, Ashika has successfully worked in a whopping 10 films.
Recently, I was able to conduct an EXCLUSIVE interview with the actress and in my opinion, you will not find a more optimistic person in your life. You can’t help but smile while talking to her because of her vibrant personality. During the interview, she was asked about her future plans, her experience in the industry, her celeb-crushes, her relationship status and much more. Keep scrolling for the first set of the excerpts, for your eyes only!
Q. Was it always your dream to work in Sandalwood? What has been your journey till now?
A. “No, it wasn’t my dream to become an actress, honestly. In my opinion, it just happened is how I see it. Having said that I have always been a movie-buff and I used to watch a lot of movies as a kid and everything. It was because I was involved in a lot of cultural activities at school and college so it was always there in hindsight. I used to like doing all of those things but I never thought I would want to do it as a profession later or something like that. But after all this happened, I feel really good about the decision I made to take up films and this industry. I feel really good about it.
I am having a very good time as well as a good experience. I think that this is the only platform where you can get everything, all that you want in life. You get fame, name, also work like money, love everything. So I am really loving it, if I have to say it in one sentence. When I look back, in college, obviously we had to make some or the other ambition decisions right, so I am not a person who likes to do a normal 9-5 job inside four walls. I am a more creative person so being in a marketing field or being an entrepreneur would have been my alternate career choice for sure.”
Q. You are only 23 and you’ve done 10 films already. Where do you see yourself five years from now?
A. “It’s definitely not numbers for me. Luckily, I have been doing my work very well in the industry. So I really don’t know because I had never thought five years back I would be where I am right now. I am a person who loves surprises in life, I don’t like to plan things in the future and then work according to it. So honestly I wish and hope that everything comes to me as a surprise in the future. Not just work, I hope everything else too including where I will be in five years, comes to me as a surprise package. So I don’t have an answer to that, however, I will definitely be in the industry that’s for sure (chuckles).”
Q. Can you share a little bit about how you celebrated your birthday this year?
A. “This year actually I had gone with my friend to France. Her brother stays there and we had gone there just to see only France, only Paris to be more specific. But randomly, her brother and her friends were like ‘why don’t we go to some other place, we’ve been here for four-five days so let’s go somewhere nice for like a long-drive or something‘. So going to Switzerland was kind of surprising to me like it was never planned (laughs). And spending your birthday in Switzerland is like really good so I should thank my friend for that. She is my bestie from college and I think generally also I had a great time there and that is what was the surprising thing for me (chuckles) because I like nature, love adventures and have great fun in such environments.”
Q. From Crazy Boy to Thayige Thakka Maga, what was your deciding factor to accept these films?
A. “Everybody says it is script and that may be correct to a great extent. For me, however, what I have learned being an actress is that the script does matter but what matters more is the team. Technically, there has to be a very strong team, even if the subject is very good or the storyline and script are great, it needs people who can create magic onscreen. It all depends on the makers about how they make a movie. I basically think about the team first, like the director, cameraman, music director, the whole technical team is the deciding factor for me to choose a film.
Even the films in which I didn’t have much a role in be it Raju Kannada Medium or Mugulu Nage or Mass Leader, I had a very small role but still, it got me a lot of name. It was because of the way they presented me onscreen, that made all the difference. See when actresses get a role, generally, everything else is already set in the film. Like for example, this is the hero, he is the director, this is producer, and only the actress part remains so they would come with a lot of options definitely. So we have to select everything inside the options that we have.
In the case of an actor, the director and producer allow changes like the character profile or the scene, according to their preference. However, I don’t think it is the same with actresses. For us, in my personal opinion, the scope for much change becomes very limited. So bottom line, I feel the team matters a lot for an actress, like how you showcase it or present it is all that matters to me.”
As you know the actress is headed to have four films releasing this year which is awesome because at this rate, with success, beauty and good scripts by her side, she would have overtaken many other actresses in a very short span of time and rightfully so. Stay tuned to the next part of the interview, coming up soon.
