CM Mamata Banerjee says that West Bengal has incurred huge losses due to Cyclone Amphan, and that it is a bigger disaster than COVID-19. She has also demanded assistance from the Central Government as the state has faced more damages than expected. A special meeting will take place today in Delhi to know the magnitude of losses and make necessary arrangements to help the states bounce back.
Supercyclone Amphan made its landfall yesterday in the states of West Bengal and Odisha. The rescue teams were deployed and many arrangements were made to minimise losses. Lakhs of people were evacuated to safer places. However, the cyclone hit hard, causing immense damage to life and property in West Bengal. Around 10-12 people lost their lives at first count, and the exact number is yet to be assessed. The Centre has promised that all the required help will be given to the states. All the details of this natural calamity will be discussed in today’s meeting.
